Yesterday was a busy day for me filled with closet makeovers, meetings, more meetings and a evening filled with work catch up. I apologize for this post coming to you late and I am working on actually getting posts written up a couple days BEFORE they are due.
That's the thing about entrepreneurship, deadlines are only set by you and the only person that will hold you accountable is within. It's easy to make up excuses as to why you're not getting things done. It's easy to blame a busy schedule and a packed day of meetings, but in reality, the reason this is late is because I didn't "feel" like writing it last night. I was tired, bogged down from a 10 day cleanse I'm on with no caffeine and feeling overwhelmed with everything on my plate right now. (Can you see all the excuses that are so easily and quickly surfacing?)
How many times in our life are we guided by what we "feel" instead of what should be done? I easily talked myself out of sitting down and writing this because I told myself it didn't really matter, no one actually reads these blogs, and if they do, who cares if it's just one day later than normal. Will anyone actually even notice? But the issues with that mentality is as soon as we start telling ourselves that it's okay if we don't hit those deadlines set within, as soon as we start making up every excuse under the book as to why we haven't hit that goal 3 months later or why we've never stuck to that resolution year after year, that's when we stop living the life we are meant to live. That's when we start going through monotonous days of the same thing, over and over again. That's when life quickly passes us by and 10 years from now we're looking back and thinking, "crap, how did I get here?!"
I'm going to start holding myself more accountable and fulfilling my own ambitions. If you are reading this, I challenge you to do the same. Starting TODAY, don't make up the excuses. TODAY, don't give yourself the easy way out. TODAY, start living and doing the things that your future self will thank you for.
Alright, now that I've gotten that out of the way, I'm going to share with you my FIVE must-have wardrobe essentials. These five pieces of clothing are items I couldn't go without in my closet.
#1 - Jean Jacket
If you've been in my closet, or even bump into me a few times a week, you'll notice my love for jackets. I've always been obsessed with layering items to create unique outfits and jackets can take an outfit from sassy to classy - or vice versa! Jean jackets, in particular, are specifically wonderful because they can literally go over anything! Throw it over a dress to play it down, sling it over your fav graphic tee and black cut out jeans (my go-to look) or tie it around your waist for a more casual, laid back outfit.
#2 - Go-to Dress
Everyone needs a dress in their closet that's their go-to! No matter how you're 'feeling' or what the occasion is, you need that dress on-hand that you know always looks fab on you! Insert this beaut. I've always had a special place in my heart for this dress. I don't know if it's the fun cut outs, or the open back, but this babe always has me feeling amazing! I've worn this on the morning news show, to dinner dates, and even to a rehearsal dinner for a friend's wedding!
#3 - Cold Shoulder Top
One of my favorite 'ass'ets, apart from the obvious one 😉 are my shoulders. Being a pear shape, I have very small shoulders and they always seem to look good, no matter what weight I'm at, so it makes sense that I am drawn to cold shoulder tops. I love this one in particular because of it's heathered grey color and uneven hemline. I've rocked this top in the grunge look above, tucked it into a high waisted skirt and I wore it in my last headshot photos with high waisted jeans and a maroon, floppy hat.
#4 - Cardigan
Along with a good jacket, cardigans are also a must for layering! I think I may have about every color under the "Chelsea's wardrobe sun" when it comes to these flowy things. Throw one over a pair of shorts and a tank this summer, get cozy over a dress or my fav look: graphic tank and skinnies accompanied with a great pair of booties!
#5 - Graphic Tank
Speaking of graphic tanks 😏, I may have a bit of an obsession when it comes to these things. If you recall, my first blog post was about how to wear one graphic tank 5 different ways. (check out that post here) But seriously, I wear these things with everything: jeans, skirts and shorts - I've worn them dressed super casually with a baseball hat and I've also worn them tucked into a maxi tulle skirt to a broadway show. The possibilites of how to wear these tanks are limitless and probably why I have such a large collection of them.
What are your go-to wardrobe essentials? Do any of yours align with mine? Join me in a few weeks, as I share with you my must-have fashion accessories! I think it's fitting to finish this post off the way I started it, and I'll share with you hopefully some inspirational quotes that'll give you a butt kicking you may need today.
"If it's important to you, you will find a way. If not, you'll find an excuse."
"You can have results, or excuses. Not both."
"Excuses will always be there for you. Opportunity won't."
"Excuses are the nails used to build a house of failure."
Until next time,
